Bodie, north of Lake Tahoe, California, is as authentic a ghost town as you can find. Because it is out of the main travel routes, when the silver mine dried up, the inhabitants abandoned the town.

The Fujiya Hotel, near the Hakone Lake, Japan, is an early 20th century interpretation of a western-style hotel. Despite its unusual architecture for the time, it preserved a very traditional and peaceful garden in the back.

The Hakone Shrine is a Shinto holy place. Pilgrims come here to write prayers on wooden tablets that they hang inside ths shrine. When I visited, someone had written on a tablet "I wish Apple will get better". The Shinto gods were listening..
